Twinkling Lights & Disco Delights: A Night Tournament Recap

Twinkling Lights & Disco Delights: A Night Tournament Recap

The Night Tournament…. What a fantastic night! Oh well, depends on who you ask of course. Because besides the high number of consumed beers and the self-prepared mystery bottles containing pink, yellow, and green liquids to set the mood, the sprained ankles were piling up. One could say that the combination of alcohol and volleyball is not the wisest idea, but you could say that about a lot of things!

Grab your glitter and rewind the beats, because it's time to take a stroll down memory lane! Let's look back at this amazing disco night filled with shimmering lights, funky moves, and memories that sparkle ☆ ☆ ☆

I think it is fair to say that everyone enjoyed themselves to the fullest. It was the kind of night where you find glitter on your arms, in your hair or between your legs the next morning… We all put in an amazing effort to wear as much glitter as possible, filling our (online) shopping baskets to the brim with all things shiny! The NT committee also made sure that there was no lack of glitter, providing us with a goodie bag that definitely has been made use of (eg: check the Sportscenter's floors at your next practice).

Not only battles between volleyball associations were being fought, but this night was also the night for the teams to finally out-play their (alumni) SVU rivals. From coaches playing drinking games while their respective teams battled against each other, to players having to take a sip of beer every time they’d mess up, it’s to be expected that the level of volleyball drastically goes down at some point. For some teams more than others though, the match results were definitely surprising and absolutely not according to the level that is usually being played. Let’s hope the TC wasn’t watching…

All of those with a sprained ankle were left to serve, making teams of 7 happen as the injured were kindly kept involved. For the libero’s, this tournament was an opportunity to single-handedly make some points during the serve. And they for sure did! To ease the pain of everything that went wrong this night, the committee luckily was being generous with the fried snacks. What was the saying again, one frikandel a day keeps the hangover away?

After some high-level volleyball, the canteen was turned into a dancefloor and oh boy, did we dance! Of course, it wouldn’t be an SVU party without the guest of honor making an appearance. Parcival was spotted swinging away in the crowd, before mysteriously disappearing again at the end of the night. However, you don’t need alcohol or a Parcival to have a good time. You can be the designated driver and watch your drunk friend attempt a cartwheel, just to end up in the bushes. As long as they get home safe-ish, right?

All in all, it was a successful night. But after a good night of sleep, there is only one thing on a SVU volleyballer’s mind. Were there any new additions to a certain web? We are pleased to tell you that this evening, once more, has proven to be a great opportunity to exchange some love. No less than 10 lines were sent to the InTeam! We hope you all enjoyed this evening, and we’ll see you next year!

Special thanks to the NTcie for organizing this amazing night!
